Gregory van der Wiel is a player we've been linked with on and off for some time now. According to various recent reports, including the following from Talksport (let's face it, they can't always be wrong!) this interest is set to be renewed:

Chelsea consider move for Dutch defender

Chelsea have not given up in their attempts to sign Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel, according to reports in Spain.

Van der Wiel has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and came close to making a move to the west London club last summer.

The move never materialised and Chelsea appeared to be out of the running after Valencia emerged as the strong favourites to sign him last month, according to Spanish newspaper Superdeporte.

But negotiations have yet to reach a firm conclusion and Chelsea are still holding out for a late move for the 23-year-old.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of Jose Bosingwa, who has been linked with a move to PSG, Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to sign another right-back.

How would you feel about that, Hutch? Would he be an asset to Chelsea, in your opinion?

I really don't know. I've never taken much interest in European football, so all I can tell you is that he sounds like a good prospect. There's an element of risk with any new signing, particularly with imports from foreign leagues, so if we do sign him, let's just hope he lives up to the hype.

As for the link above, yes it's Talksport, but they were also the first to mention our interest in Juan Mata. In fact I remember starting a thread on Juan Mata (at a certain other location) some time ago, based solely on the Talksport story.
